The Center for Girls and Women with ADHD
Improved knowledge and a better understanding of girls and
women with ADD (ADHD) have the potential to improve many lives
and relieve countless women of the shame with which they have
grown up. To date, the medical community, as well as the general
population, remains ignorant of the unique impact of ADD (ADHD)
on females. Current diagnostic criteria that continue to emphasize
traits common to boys leave the majority of girls and women
with ADD (ADHD) to remain undiagnosed and misunderstood. To
address this problem, the Center for Girls and Women with ADHD was founded in 1997.
Through Center sponsored seminars, newsletters, press releases,
publications, monographs, and its website, parents, professionals,
and educators will be able to obtain the most current information
on diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in females across
the lifespan. In addition, the struggles of women and girls
with ADHD will be highlighted through the production
by the Center of various programming and videos that will
be made available to organizations and for public broadcast.
